Homefront Groups British

UK Homefront

We are a group of re-enactors who portray the homefront during Britains Finest Hour. We do not do this to glorify war but to remember those who lived through this terrible time. We hope to educate and entertain, as well as having a good time. AS WELL AS HAVING A GOOD TIME . The group was founded by Sandra and Ian Day.

OUR ACCLAIMED VISITS TO SCHOOLS HELPING YOUNGSTERS LEARN THEIR HISTORY (KEY STAGE 2 WW2 HISTORY) and HELPING WITH THE NATIONAL CURICULUM IT SHOWS A TYPICAL ITINERARY OF ONE OF OUR VISITS, (IT'S CHEAPER THAN A FIELD TRIP!!).

Homefront Friends

We offer a range of historical interactive talks, educational workshops, living history re-enactment performances and museum interpretation. Specialising in the W.W.1 / Edwardian, W.W.2 British home front and the post war austerity period. To keep the audiences attention we mix serious subjects with a little humour. The term we use to describe what we do is 'edutainment'. To assure you of our quality we are both members of the actors union, Equity and have public liability insurance. If you are interested in the UK 1940's retro movement visit our various social network sites which act as a gentle introduction into the current scene. Finally if you have not visited our site for a while, its worth clicking on What's New. We hope you enjoy your visit and although Heinkels and Dorniers may circle overhead, are we down hearted?

Blitz & Peaces

Our aim is to provide quality, experiential entertainment tailored to the needs of your event. We can provide you with static displays and aesthetic decoration, pre-recorded music of the 30’s and 40’s or, live music with master of ceremonies duties. Visitors to your event will leave feeling that they have had a real opportunity to enjoy the experience of the sights and sounds of the “home front”.

Over the years we have worked with and met hundreds of people who have told us tales of their own experiences during the war, some horrific, some tragic and some highly amusing! These people have always said that whatever their experiences, they felt that the community spirit was stronger during the war years and whatever hardships they faced they felt alive and fulfilled however small their part was in securing our future. A sentiment that is seldom heard these days.

Northern Forties

We like to dress up in period 1940s clothing. This can be military or civilian. Most of the events we attend prefer British or Allied personnel; some events will allow Germans. At most events, we walk around amongst the public - interacting with them: telling them about what we are wearing, what we are carrying, and the type of life lived by the kind of person we choose to portray. At some events we put up a static display or diorama, with a variety of equipment and sometimes weapons for people to look at.

Martha's War

Specialising in portraying life on the Home Front, Martha's War stages a popular Cooking with Rations Display with ongoing cooking and tasting; Martha's Health and Beauty - the interior of a wartime shop showing all the popular beauty products of the day and also Make Do and Mend sessions with working bakelite sewing machine, and other scenarios. We try to educate people about the people on the Home Front and make it fun whilst showing the darker side of life in wartime.
