The Soldiers’ Charity. We give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much for us, but for them, it’s “just doing their job”. In return, we give them down-to-earth help and friendship, with no hassle or bureaucracy. That’s what we’ve been here to offer for 66 years.
Recently we have seen a 30% year on year rise in applications from soldiers who have taken part in previous and current conflicts and we currently raise £7 million a year to meet this need.
As a result of Current Operations it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years. It is the aim of The Soldiers’ Charity to increase fundraising to £14 million a year by 2015 to be sure that we can help each and every soldier that needs our help. We depend entirely on your donations and goodwill to do this.

Kate was commanding a Warrior tank in Afghanistan back in 2008 when it ran over a 50kg bomb.
Kate remembers
“I was conscious throughout the whole thing – I remember a loud noise, a bit of a funny smell, some smoke.”
Her first instinct was to make sure the rest of her 6-man team were ok but was later to discover that tragically Colour Sergeant Krishna Dura, a Gurkha Sniper Team Commander had been killed in the attack.
Kate was rushed to a field hospital in Helmand and underwent hours of emergency surgery. It seemed like her leg had been saved.
However back in the UK experts from Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham broke the news that her left leg was badly shattered. She had a choice of either keeping her leg, with the risk of not being able to walk again properly, or having it amputated and be fitted with a prosthetic limb.
”For me it was a simple question of function over cosmetics.”
“I asked whether with a prosthetic I would be able to run, play tennis and ski. When the reply came “yes” I responded “that’s fine then”.
Today, Kate is still in the Army and hopes one day to return to Afghanistan on active service.
April 2010 is going to be hot!
Welcome to The Big Curry. The fiery fundraiser from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity
What better way to support the nation’s soldiers, former soldiers and their families than cooking up our national dish?
All you need to do is pick a date in April, then get all your friends, family and colleagues to poppadom round and enjoy a curry together. Hold it in a restaurant, at home, at work, up a mountain, in the back of a tank; the only limit is your imagination!
Have it anytime in April, and whilst you’re scoffing an aromatic korma or a full-flavoured madras, you can help our soldiers, past and present, by popping some money into a pot. But not into the curry pot of course!
It’s easy and it’s enjoyable. The Big Curry really is a fundraising event that is second to naan!
